Bruh Got Game Foundation (BGG) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through the power of gaming and esports. Founded by Robert Powell, who identified gaming as more than just a pastime, BGG harnesses the educational and developmental benefits of gaming to inspire, teach, and prepare young people for success in school, life, and future careers.
Our community faces significant challenges, including limited access to engaging educational resources, a lack of safe spaces for youth to develop critical skills, and underrepresentation of diverse voices in STEM and gaming industries. These obstacles can lead to disengagement, missed opportunities, and a cycle of underachievement.
Robert Powell, our founder and CEO, saw gaming as a tool to strengthen brains, boost confidence, and cultivate life skills. His vision drives BGG’s commitment to transforming gaming into a pathway for youth empowerment and community upliftment.

BGG has done a lot for me. They have shown me that gaming can be more than just a small hobby, it can be so much more. BGG has shown me that every moment spent gaming can actually be an opportunity, and I’m so thankful for the day I met the Foundation. I’m grateful for all the tournaments I have placed in. They believed in me when no one else did, even when I was the only girl at times. The BGG Foundation has taught me leadership and done so much for me, and I will forever be grateful for every moment I have with them!

In my eyes, BGG is 100% a unique and fun experience that doesn’t come often. My experiences with BGG forced me to break out of my shell. I have met new people, made great friends, and become more confident in myself. This has caused me to begin taking more “first steps” in my life. BGG has pushed me to thrive in more competitive gaming experiences while having fun as well. Playing, winning, and losing in TEKKEN and Brawlhalla tournaments is definitely a big highlight for me. The moment I got to hold a title belt meant a lot to me. Growing up, I always wanted to at least try playing a game I enjoy in a competitive setting. If not for BGG, I would have never thought of applying for one of my college’s esports teams. Now, I want to try my best to make myself proud.

When I first attended a BGG event, I had no idea I would develop so much as a person alongside my goal of becoming a professional gamer. These events showed me that the BGG is not just a foundation but a community where people can truly enjoy their passions. During one of the events, I asked if I could become an intern, and that’s how it all started. From then my goal was to see BGG grow and to get not only my name out there but also the Foundation’s name. The BGG Foundation is a big reason why I am the person I am today. To this day, I’ve been given many opportunities through tournaments, college introductions, and valuable experiences that have helped me break out of my shell and become more sociable. Thanks to the BGG Foundation, I can confidently go to SEMO esports knowing more about what it means to be part of a gaming community and how to truly fit in being myself.

I first discovered BGG at Anime STL in 2022, where they hosted gaming tournaments including Mortal Kombat. I joined thinking it would be easy since I win a lot online, but I quickly realized competitive play is on another level. I had an amazing time and wanted to improve. I later learned BGG hosts tournaments across STL, and since then, I’ve won several Mortal Kombat tournaments and placed top 3 in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Competing helped me realize how much I love gaming and meeting new people. BGG helped me come out of my shell. I used to be introverted, but now I enjoy connecting with others.Though I’m in college for wrestling, I still attend BGG events to compete and help out. I’m proud to have been part of BGG’s growth and look forward to getting more involved after college to be the leader they helped me to be.

I have been a gamer since I was 2. BGG used gaming to inspire me to pursue what I truly care about. No one expected gaming to have such an impact on my life, not even my parents. Until I entered a BGG tournament and won a scholarship.
